The “Baba Zangee High School” is located in the city center of Herat, only a few kilometers from the Blue Mosque – a landmark of the city. Around 6,000 students attend the school. They are taught in tents since they have no school building of their own. The extreme weather conditions and the poor condition of the tents affect the teaching quality and sometimes even cause the cancelation of classes.
To improve the situation of the school, we cooperated with the Heidberg-Gymnasium in Hamburg-Langenhorn. The students, teachers and parents organized sponsored runs, a social day and a charity evening. A total donation amount of € 7,385.97 was achieved. These funds were used to buy 25 tents on site, pay for the welding work on the tent frames and buy carpets. The tents are of particularly high quality and come with an at least five-year guarantee so that lessons at the school are guaranteed for the next few years.
